Today's Topic: Underwater Sex. Sexy or Scary?

I already know what you're thinking. Why are you like this? Who's thinking about this right now? You're outta hand girl. But hear me out. When I was researching possible topics for my first blog post, I thought.. what don't you know about, that maybe you might want to know about one day - especially with Hot Girl Summer quickly approaching and the COVID-19 vaccine distribution reaching an all time high. Our new-new normal might have some girls thinking about all the glorious ways being VAXED and WAXED is going to be paying off this summer, now that we can finally leave our homes (if that's what you want to do). Which got me thinking about exotic vacations with sandy beaches, lounging on pretty balconies, eating fresh pineapples and drinking carribean cocktails..
Which then naturally got me thinking about

Vacation Sex

Ahh Vacation Sex, feels like its been forever since we've stamped our passports or found ourselves saying peace out every day life, "I'm OOO b*tch!" And now, here we are, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Probably some of the best sex, next to spontaous sex and "I havent gotten laid in forever sex," is Vacation Sex. It's the kind of sex that your like, damn that was fantastic. Does my skin always glow like this? Did I just nap for that long? Is it time for dinner in my sun dress already? You know the vibe. Well, before you dive deep into some unknown waters this summer...Check out these 8 things you should know about sex in water because, "The more you know, the more you grow."

Here's 8 Things You Should Know About Underwater Sex

1. You can get seriously dry down there.
It would make sense if you thought water would be an awesome lube—after all, it’s wet. But not so fast: “Water is not a good lubricant at all,” says Jessica Shepherd, M.D., an ob-gyn at Baylor University. It can also wash away the natural lubricant your body makes and dry you out, she says. As a result, it may be harder for you to stay as wet (and comfortable) during sex in water as you would on land.
2. You could set yourself up for vaginal tearing.
That lack of lube can be a problem and may even lead to increased friction in your vagina, Dr. Shepherd says. And we’re not talking about the good kind of friction. Think more vaginal micro-tears, adds Jennifer Wider, M.D. Also keep this in mind: If your partner is wearing a condom or barrier, more friction increases the odds it will tear.
3. You could get a UTI.
Remember all that bacteria that’s hanging out in water? Well, it can also get pushed into your urethra (the small opening that pee comes out of) during sex, raising your risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI), Dr. Wider says.
From there, the bacteria can work its way up your urethra to your bladder, where it can grow and cause a UTI. And that can lead to all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms, like pain and burning when you pee, feeling like you have to pee all the time, and even having blood in your pee, according to the U.S. Office on Women’s Health. Pro tip, per Dr. Shepherd: Always pee after you have sex to try to flush the bacteria out.
4. Your yeast infection risk can go up.
This just gets better and better, right? Having sex in any body of water can increase your yeast infection risk, and chlorine in particular is tricky because it can irritate your vagina and disrupt the delicate pH down there.
If your pH is disrupted, it can open you up for a yeast overgrowth, leading to an infection, Dr. Shepherd says. And that can leave you with vaginal itching, pain during sex, and abnormal discharge, according to the CDC.
5. You’re at a higher risk for STIs.
Sorry, but water doesn’t have magical STI-cleansing properties, unfortunately. Given that it’s kind of tricky to use protection underwater, and especially hard to use it properly, this is pretty problematic. Another important thing to keep in mind, per Dr. Wider: Friction from sex can cause those aforementioned vaginal tears—and that can up your risk of getting an STI, too. BTW, it’s not any one particular STI you’re opening yourself up to, it’s all of them, Dr. Wider says.
6. Even digital penetration can be a risk.
Unfortunately, getting frisky with your hands with any partner can be risky in water too. “Digital penetration can put you at risk for irritation, and infection as you will be pushing germs into the vaginal canal,” Dr. Wider says. So you still can be at risk for a yeast infection, irritation, and even a UTI if you get handsy with your partner underwater.
7. Yup, you can still get pregnant.
If someone happens to ejaculate in a pool or other body of water where you’re swimming, you’re not going to become pregnant, Dr. Wider says (that’s just an urban legend). But if you’re having penetrative sex and a partner with a penis ejaculates inside you, then yeah, you can get pregnant. “Conception can still occur while having sex in the water, so do not count it as a form of contraception,” Dr. Shepherd says.
8. Underwater sex isn't exactly sterile.
Sure, you're probably not getting it on in a hospital-grade bed anyway, but there's a chance that bodies of water can carry some pretty gross bacteria, including E.coli and salmonella. Anywhere you're swimming, from pools and hot tubs with improper pH levels, to rivers, lakes, oceans, might not be the cleanliest place to get fully naked and have sex. “There is a chance that you are pushing bacteria or other germs into the vaginal canal and into your body,” says Dr. Wider.
So after all that information, I don't know about you girls but I'm not sure "Sex in Water" is for everyone. However, even though this list did not highlight one good reason to have sex in water - I will say that if you happen to find yourself getting wet and wild once in a while it may not be the end of the world, but it may also have some risks..clearly.  In light of that, here a few underwater sex tips that provide less risks, if your still looking to check that wet and wild experience off your Sex Bucket List.

Under Water Sex Tips: Try these for less risk and more reward.
  • Trade your under water fantasy for a "by the water fantasy." You still get the ambiance, just without the worry.
  • If you still want that underwater feel, try incorporating your favorite sex toy (given it can be submerged in water) and lots of lube.
  • Avoid having sex in public bodies of water. (I mean, come on now)
  • Your bathtub and shower are safe bets to get wet & wild. YOLO Girl!

Positive Positions: Try these for a more enjoyable experience.

  • Pool: "Doggy-style and standing positions will work best underwater in a pool," Morse suggests. "You can grab onto the edges of the pool for support, or use the steps to sit."
  • Bathtub: "Sit in your partner's lap, with each knee draped over one of their legs," suggests Engle. "This will give them plenty of clit access." If you're looking to do some oral in the tub, Engle suggests having your partner sit on the edge of the tub while you "sit in the tub or kneel below them to give them oral sex."
  • Shower: "Personally, I would recommend oral sex, with one partner kneeling away from the water and the receiver under it so they can feel the water pressure and sensation on their penis or clitoris simultaneously," says Engle. If you're not really feeling oral, Engle recommends a three-legged stand. "One person (the giver) stands on two legs and lifts one of the other person's legs to their waist for shallow entry."
